Computer Security Ring

2007_07_25 security-ring.jpg

If you often find yourself in a daze at work resulting in you wandering away from your pc unintentionally, this security ring design concept will make sure that your PC is not left unlocked and open to curious colleagues. With the base attached to your pc, you simply wear the ring, and upon moving a set distance awar from your PC, it automatically locks.

We are not sure why this concept requires such a large base station when this functionality could easily be integrated via software and a cleverly designed Bluetooth dongle to look like a ring, or necklace or even just function off your mobile phone being paired with your PC, but CTRL-ALT-DEL followed by enter has worked just as simply for us at the office to lock our machine.

Float's Mobile Agent has a feature like this for Sony-Ericsson phones. I think it would work for other phones as long as the PC was BT-capable. My desktops don't have BT, so I can't test... Combine this with a USB fingerprint reader and you have a very easy computer locking/unlocking solution.

You can also lock your workstation with WinKey L.
